Bhaktapur founded in the 9th century is the city of devotees as its typical name Bhadgaon suggest devotees. Boudhanath is one of the biggest stupas in the world of its kind. It constitutes four pairs of eyes in the four cardinal directions. The stupa is designed on an octagonal base and contains inset prayer wheels. The shire is surrounded by the homes of Lamas or Buddhist priests.
