Day 08 Paragliding in Pokhara—Takeoff from Sarangkot and landing near Lakeside (20–30 minutes flight)

Today is another highlight day the day for Paragliding . Early in the morning you will drive to Sarankot, a hilltop village famous for its sweeping himalayan views and paragliding takeoff point. Before flying, you’ll fill out the short form with your name and emergency contact. You will meet your pilot, who will give you a simple safety briefing on how takeoff works. How landing works and what to do and what not to do. It’s easy quick and made for beginners, so no prior experience is needed. Then your pilot will help you put on the harness and helmet, tighten straps and check the safety points. They do double-check everything from comfort to safety, as it comes first.

Then the pilot spreads the parachute like a glider behind you on the grass. They will check the wind direction and make sure the lines are all clear. This part takes like 2-5 minutes. Your pilot will stand behind you and say something like, “When I say run, just keep walking or running forward; don’t stop.” Then the flight begins; the pilot will signal, “Ready …walk…now run!” and then the glider catches the wind. In just a few steps, your feet lift off the ground. You will sit comfortably in the harness. The pilot does all the flying . you can take pictures or videos. You’ll see the phewa lake from above , small villages, green hills and the Annapurna range.

If you want a calm, peaceful flight, then your pilot can glide gently . If you want some excitement, they can do things like spins and fu maneuvers. You can talk to your pilot ask question or just enjoy the silence and the wind. After around 20-30 minutes the pilot slowly directs the glider toward the landing area near the lake. You’ll see the ground getting closer but the descent is gentle and controlled then the pilot will say something like “ Lift your legs a little… now stand” your feet will touch the ground lightly, and you may take 1-2 small steps . The pilot packs the glider. If you purchase a photo/video package, they will transfer it to your phone or give your the file, which may take like 5-10 minutes, and then you will return back to your hotel after the day filled with many emotions.

Trip Information

Who Is This Trip Perfect For?

This trip is designed for those travelers who want to experience the best of Nepal in a short amount of time without compromising on adventure or natural beauty. It is perfect for first-time trekkers, families, couples, or solo travelers looking for a moderate trek paired with an exhilarating paragliding experience. Even if you ‘ve never hiked in the mountain or tried adventure sports before, thos itinerary ensures a safe and comfortable journey with experienced guides and certified pilots.

It also works wonderfully for people with tight schedules, such as students, professionals or anyone extending a Nepal visit from neighboring countries. Because the trek is moderate and the paragliding is tandem, you don’t need any specialized skills. You can simply be curious, with a love for nature and the excitement to experience Nepal from the both trails and the sky

What Makes This Combination Unique?

Trekking and paragliding together create a rare blend of adventure that very few packages offer. On the trail you get the slow, peaceful rhythm of walking through mountain villages, forests and viewpoints, which will give you enough time to observe nature, culture and the magnificent Himalayas. Then suddenly you switch perspectives completely, soaring above pokhara like a bird with the mountains rising in the distance. It’s like seeing Nepal from two completely different worlds.

Scenic Highlights You Will Experience

During the hike, you will encounter nature’s exclusive beauty. An enormous rhododendron woodland at the top of the trail, particularly during the spring when the flowers are in full bloom and different colors: red, pink, and white. Agricultural lands in terraces are planted on the hills while waterfalls and streams sprinkle the trail with their coolness and add their sounds to nature’s concert. At each corner, the newness of the view changes paths made with stones, bamboo trees, spiritual farms, and sights of the snow-covered tops.

The most magnificent moment of all comes at Poon Hill. Just when the day begins, the summit of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountains are painted with soft and warm colors of gold and crimson as if the sky and earth were one. The remarkable Machapuchhre (Fishtail Peak) is, on bright days, clear-cut and gleaming, thus making the experience even more enchanting. Later, in Pokhara, the view is utterly different: a serene blue Fewa Lake under your paraglider, forests below and a valley like a wide panoramic canvas.

Cultural Encounters Along the Trail

The hike leads you through real Gurung and Magar settlements where the inhabitants have been living embracing their culture and customs. You will notice kids going to school, elderly people making baskets and families looking after their crops or farm animals. The buildings’ stone-made houses with slate-covered roofs tell the tale of a cultural lineage lasting hundreds of years. Several of the tea houses are operated by families who offer the visitors very friendly smiles along with delicious and healthy home-cooked meals.

These people are famous for their hospitality as well as for their ability to survive difficult circumstances. At night, around the fire, you could be entertained with tales of the past, introduced to the local festive calendar, or treated to local specialties like dhido or freshly cooked dal bhat. The whole experience is like being transported into another world, a hidden rural corner of Nepal that has the perfect mixture of the old and the new, the culture and the people.

Fitness & Preparation Tips

The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is rated moderate, which indicates that you will be on foot for about 4–6 hours per day. However, a good fitness level does not only help to get around but also gives more enjoyment from the trip. Light cardio, regular walking, and some short practice hikes will be enough to get you fit for the trek. The trail is not flat all the way and some parts are quite steep, including the stone steps to Tikhedhunga but if you keep a good pace, it will be very manageable.

No technical skills needed, just good trekking footwear, a positive attitude, and the capacity to walk at a comfortable speed. The program is full of rests, water breaks, and gradual hikes that will help your body adjust to the new altitude. The guides also promote good trekking practices like drinking plenty of water, stretching, and going slowly in the steep sections.

Weather Expectations During the Trip

The trek goes over different heights, which means that the weather is changing gradually as you ascend. The mornings on the trail are cool and invigorating, which makes them ideal for walking. The afternoons get hotter, so one layer of light clothing will be enough. The evenings can be quite cold, especially in Ghorepani, where the air is fresh and frosty, which is the kind of atmosphere that attracts trekkers to the mountains.

Spring and autumn, the peak seasons, are characterized by bright and clear skies, which provide a great view of the mountains. Nights at higher altitudes can be cold, but with warm tea, blankets, and good clothes, one can still be comfortable. Pokhara, on the other hand, enjoys mild weather, which is nice for relaxing or paragliding flights during the day with clear skies and stable wind conditions.

Accommodation & Meals on the Trek

For the accommodation, you will be staying in the traditional teahouse. The local lodges are run by the friendly families. Rooms are simple but cozy, usually with twin beds, blankets , and a clean shared bathroom. Electricity and Wi-Fi are available in most villages , often for a small fee. The warm atmosphere of the dining hall, especially in the evening it will create a lovely communal feeling among trekkers.

For the meals, it will include the Nepali staples like dal bhat as well as soups, noodles, pancakes, fried rice, omelets , curries, and tea. Everything is freshly prepared, warm and comforting after a long day of walking. Hot showers are available in many teahouses, making the trek much more comfortable. However you need to pay like additional like $1-2 for hot water . The entire experience is designed to meet the basic needs while giving you a genuine taste of mountain hospitality.

Safety Standards for Trekking & Paragliding

For your trekking, you will be going with experienced licensed guides who know the region well. They are well equipped to handle the navigation, weather changes, altitude awareness, and first aid. These guides will ensure steady pacing, hydration reminders, and correct routing, making the trek safe and stress-free. Porter: if you include it then they will carry your luggage.

As for the paragliding, it is conducted by the certified tandem pilots with years of experience. The equipment harnesses , gliders, and helmets all will meet the international safety standards. Flights only happen after the weather checks and wind assessments, which also means it ensures the maximum safety . Before takeoff pilots will provide you the short briefing so you will know exactly what to expect. Safety is the highest priority throughout the entire trip.

Altitude & Health Considerations

The highest point of this trek is Poon Hill at 3,193 m, which is quietly at the comfortable altitudes where major altitude issues are extremely unlikely. Still, guides encourage proper pacing and hydration to ensure your body adjusts smoothly. When you are on the trek, the regular rest stops will allow you to breathe, take photos, and enjoy the scenery without the overexertion.
Altitude sickness happens after 2000 m, so you will reach 3000 m, so obviously there is the chance to get it, so it’s better to have precautions for that. Make sure you drink plenty of water, avoid heavy alcohol, and walk slowly, and these things will be enough for this trek . This trek is designed with short walking days to keep you relaxed and physically comfortable throughout.

Photography Opportunities

Every day of this trip will offer something remarkable to the photographer. Poon Hill is one of the most famous sunrise spots in Nepal, with the mountains glowing gold as the light spreads across the horizon. On the trail, bridges , forests, waterfalls, stone villages, and terraced fields will create the beautiful compositions. The changing colors of the sky at dusk are also worth capturing.

During the paragliding, you will get the rare aerial perspectives of Pokhara, Fewa Lake, and the sprawling valley below. Many pilots offer you the GoPro so you can take photos and videos in mid-flight. Drones are allowed in certain areas, but may require local permission for that; your guide will advise you. Sunrise, sunset, and forest-filtered light offer you ideal conditions for the stunning natural shots.

Local Flora & Fauna You May See

The trail passes through some of Nepal’s most vibrant forest ecosystems. In the spring season rhododendrons bloom in brilliant colors, creating an enchanting tunnel of flowers. Throughout the year, you’ll find oak, pine, bamboo, ferns, and moss adding lush greenery to the path. Orchids cling to the branches, and clear streams add a touch of magic.
Wildlife is equally fascinating. You may spot Himalayan langur monkeys, playful squirrels, and various songbirds. The region is also home to mountain goats, pheasants, and colorful butterflies. These natural encounters add a refreshing, lively charm to every step you take.

Transportation Details

Your journey will typically start with travel from Kathmandu to Pokhara , which can be done by comfortable tourist bus, private car, or a short domestic flight. Each option caters to different budgets and preferences. Pokhara’s peaceful environment serves as the perfect gateway before you head into the mountains.

From Pokhara , a scenic drive to the Nayapul will mark the beginning of your trek. The roads are generally well-maintained and offer the beautiful views of hills, fields and villages. After completing the trek, you will return to Pokhara by jeep or private vehicle. Transportation throughout the trip is arranged to be as smooth and comfortable as possible.

Sustainability & Responsible Travel

This trip emphasizes the respect for the local culture and nature. You’ll stay in family-run teahouses, helping to support the local economies and communities directly. Guides encourage using the reusable water bottles, minimizing the plastic and keeping the trail clean. You’ll also learn the cultural etiquette to ensure respectful interactions with the villagers. Additionally, trekking in small groups reduces the envirenmental impact and avoiding the unnecessary waste helps you preserve the beauty of the region. Responsible travel ensures that future visitors and local families continue to benefit from the tourism without harming the environment.

You can add extra trekking days to Ghandruk , visit the viewpoints like Sarangkot or enjoy Pokhara activities such as ziplining , hot air balloon flights, boating or ultra-light aircraft rides.
