Overview of Tsum Valley with Manaslu Circuit Trek

We graciously invite you to our 19 days long Tsum Valley with Manaslu Circuit Trek where the true dimension of Nepal will literally come alive. This admiring and adventurous journey will take you through the very peculiar and special human, cultural, and landscape environment of two enticing destinations of remote Nepal: the Living Valley of Tsum and Manaslu.

Here in our Tsum Valley With Manaslu Circuit Trek, you will enjoy the spirit of discovery, of seeing new things, of participating in the lives of its inhabitants, and, perhaps, having to adapt to the road conditions making each moment a memorable part of your expedition.

The first part of our journey shares the initial stage of the Manaslu trek through Machha Khola and Philim following the Budhi Gandaki River. Once you are in Lokpa Village, you have stepped into a secluded realm of Tsum Valley that only opened its doors to outsiders in 2008.

Rested in the northern part of Nepal in the Gorkha region, the Valley traces the path of the Shiyar Khola while the majestic Ganesh Himal and its sister mountains protect the Valley. It is probably the reason why the Valley is still untouched by the outwardly influence.

The local population here likes to call themselves Tsumbas. They are primarily of Tibetan descent, speak their own dialect, and thrive on agriculture, trade, and herding yaks. They are the hardworking community of Bhotia people who still dress like ancient Tibetans.

Thus, they have closer relations with their Bhotia reltives than to the Nepali people. Countless Mani Walls with sacred inscriptions and the several colored prayer flags indicate that Buddhism is still the major cultural focal point here.

Continuing with our Tsum Valley With Manaslu Circuit Trek, you will delve deeper into the tempting villages of Tsum Valley: Chumling, Chhekampar lovingly called as Chhokang Paro, Nile, and Mu Gompa.

Here, in these settlements, you will discover the wonders the Valley hides: countless chortens, Mani Walls carved with the sayings of Milarepa, stupas, ancient Gompas (Monasteries), and ancient caves where Buddhist monks said to have walked and gained enlightenment.

The specific interest will be Rachen Gompa – the sole female Gompa in the region and the Mu Gompa – a remarkable structure created by the holy Bhutanese Lama Drupa Rinpoche, who meditated for years in the nearby caves.

All the moment you spend in the Tsum Vally, you will also be surrounded by the dazzling high snowy ridges of Manaslu (8163 m), Annapurna Himal (8091 m), Naike (6211 m), Shringi Himal (7187 m), Himlung (7126 m), Gorkha Himal (6092 m), and Ganesh Himal (7422 m).

Once the Tsum Valley trek is completed, you will then continue on to the Manaslu circuit route from Lokpa following the course of Budhi Gandaki River once again. Traversing the secret treasures of Namrung, Lho Gaon, Sama Gaon and Samdo, you will reach the 5106 m Larkya La Pass.

These tiny settlements are very close to Tibet thus they share similar cultural, natural, and religious characteristics. After daring the Larkya La Pass, you will end your Tsum Valley with Manaslu Circuit Trek journeying along the Annapurna Circuit trekking trail from Dharapani to Besisahar to Kathmandu.

En route of the Manaslu circuit, you will be bewitched by the high mountainous panoramas of Himalchuli (7893 m), Cheo Himal (6820 m), Pang Chuli (5663 m), Ngadi Chuli (7871 m), Kanguru (6367 m), Larke Peak (6249 m) along with familiar Ganesh, Annapurna, Shringi nd Manaslu.

On the other hand for the cultural enthusiast, this phase of the trek gives a unique chance to stroll through the traditional villages of the Gurung, Magar, Chhetri, and Newar ethnic groups. Here, you can see the unique cultural blend of the Buddhism and Hinduism co-existing perfectly in peace.

Overall, our Tsum Valley With Manaslu Circuit Trek is clearly much more than just walking. Most of the trekkers engage in this journey to feel the real essence of Nepal’s rich culture, secret hidden villages, relatively uncrowded and remote trails, along with breathtakingly enchanting landscapes.

We, therefore, propose to you an undeniably interesting and novel program to explore this isolated region of Nepal, in the wonderful setting of legend, miracles, and mountains.

Trip Information

Tsum Valley With Manaslu Circuit Trek Terrain and Length

Our unforgettable 19 days long Tsum Valley With Manaslu Circuit Trek will let you traverse a remarkable distance of 230 kilometers, including 177 kilometers to the Manaslu circuit.

This adventure promises variations of altitudes, guiding you through diverse landscapes. You will commence your trek from the warm and humid air of the lush subtropical forests before you ascend into the breathtaking subalpine and alpine regions.

Here, you will encounter expansive pastures for yak herds and will be surrounded by stunning mountain peaks as you circle the majestic Manaslu.

Why Tsum valley and Manaslu ciruit trek is restriction area ?

Both the Tsum Valley and the Manaslu circuit trekking routes are restricted areas designated by the Nepalese government, and there are important reasons for this classification.

These stunning regions are the sanctuaries for some endangered wildlife, such as the elusive snow leopard and the charming red panda, as well as diverse rare plant species.

In addition, these regions share a border with Tibet that itself enforces strict regulations on tourist access. The Nepal government is also dedicated to safeguarding the unique character of these landscapes and avoiding the fate that has befallen on Annapurna and Everest Trails.

Best Time Period and weather conditions for Tsum Valley with Manaslu Circuit Trek

The climate in the Tsum Valley and around Manaslu alters dramatically with changing altitude. The tropical climate prevails in the lower regions while the mid-elevated area has the subtropical and temperate influence. The higher areas on the other hand have the climate transforming into alpine nature.

The monsoon and summer season from July to early September, brings heavy rain, and the higher altitudes, such as Larkya La Pass, are often blanketed in significant snowfall.

Considering these climatic variations, the most comfortable time period for our Tsum Valley With Manaslu Circuit Trek is during Fall from mid-September to early December.

The warm heat between 15 to 20 degrees offers a pleasant walking environment with the most enticing spectacle of the high mountains.

Springtime between March through May is also equally enchanting, with heat reaching up to 25 degrees Celsius complimented by the green and pink tapestries.

However, winter, from December till February, introduces frost and heavy snow, often making the passes impassable.

Tsum Valley With Manaslu Circuit Trek Difficulty

Our Tsum Valley With Manaslu Circuit Trek is a moderate level of adventure in the northern remote corner of Nepal. There will be breathtaking altitudes throughout the trek to be tackled such as the Larkya La Pass soaring above 5100 m.

Thus altitude will become a crucial factor here while the terrain and the walking pathways will offer a blend of steepened climbs and descents. You should also expect to hike for up to 7 hours each day, with some days stretching to 8 hours.

There will also be notable differences in temperature as sunny days can swiftly give way to chilly breezes, rains, and snow. However, the ascension involved in this trek is gentle, requiring no technical skills.

Who can partake in our Tsum Valley With Manaslu Circuit Trek?

If you are healthy and don’t have any chronic medical issues, then our Tsum Valley With Manaslu Circuit Trek is open to you, even if you are a beginner at high-altitude trekking. No special expertise, knowledge, or climbing gear is needed.

This trek can be a fantastic way to start your trekking adventure in Nepal. The path is well-signposted and maintained by the locals, though it’s not a paved road.

Just be ready for 5 to 8 hours of walking each day with a light load on your back. The transition from the plains to the mountains can also be tough, but with the right prep and guidance, you will surely enjoy the journey.

Altitude Sickness and Acclimatization

As explained earlier, altitude has an important role in our Tsum Valley With Manaslu Circuit Trek. Moving from low to high elevations over 4500 m in just a few days can strain your body as it tries to adjust to the thinner air. To help with this, we have organized a gradual trek with a rest day in Sama Gaun.

If you stick to the acclimatization guidelines, you are less likely to experience altitude sickness, though individual responses vary. This trek’s peak is below 5500 m, so some may feel headaches or dizziness. Diamox can be effective in easing these symptoms.

Remember to stay hydrated by in taking plenty of water and avoiding smoking and alcohol. If symptoms last for two days, inform our guide, who will take you to a lower altitude for comfort.

Accommodation, Food and Drinks

Once you are in Kathmandu, we will offer you a delightful three-star hotel, where you will share a room and enjoy breakfast. During your trek, you will settle in the evening in cozy mountain lodges where three meals a day—breakfast, lunch, and dinner—along with tea or coffee await you.

Each night, you can also take the pleasure of fresh seasonal fruit after dinner. These tea houses offer a fantastic menu, featuring everything from the classic Nepali Dal, Bhat, and Tarkari to fried rice, dumplings, pasta, noodles, eggs, pizza, porridge, muesli, and more.

Transportation, Communication, Electricity, and Internet Facilities

Throughout our Tsum Valley With Manaslu Circuit Trek, all land transportation will be taken care of for you. Depending on the number of participants, a private vehicle be it a bus, car, or jeep will be arranged for your airport transfers.

For the journey from Kathmandu to Machha Khola and back from Tilje to Kathmandu, we will utilize a shared bus or jeep, again based on the size of our group.

In the Tsum Valley and Manaslu, NCELL, and NTC provide reliable reception so you can stay connected with your families during your journey. With 4G service available through these networks, you can also enjoy fast internet.

You will also find reliable WiFi in Samagaon, Namrung, Bhimthang, Lho, Samdo, and Dharapani but at Tsum Vally, you may experience some interruption.

The mountain lodges will allow you to charge your electric gadgets with a steady electricity supply throughout the area. Just a small fee of USD 3 to USD 4 per hour applies for WIFI and charging.

Travel Insurance

Our Tsum Valley With Manaslu Circuit Trek is an exhilarating experience, but it’s essential to be prepared. This stunning route is classified as a restricted area, meaning you will need a special permit to explore its wonders.

To obtain this permit, you must present a copy of your travel insurance policy. This requirement is in place for your safety in the remote Himalayan terrain, where unforeseen events can occur.

From slips and falls to altitude sickness, the risks are real, and having the right insurance can be your safety net. It ensures you are overloaded by unexpected costs if you need emergency air evacuation.

Trip Preparation, Health, and Safety

Get set for our Tsum Valley With Manaslu Circuit Trek by focusing on aerobic exercises that will enhance your fitness and stamina. Begin your training at least 60 days prior to your trek.

Engage in hiking, swimming, weight lifting, jogging, cycling, stair climbing, running, and leg exercises to build strength. A low-altitude trek in your region will also help you acclimate to the environment.
