The rock sections are reasonably steep but not so steep or exposed to warrant using a rope. On the glacier, we use ropes to safety negotiate a heavily crevassed section that leads to smoother glacier. From here we cross a rocky bit, where the glacier meets the rock wall, and climb the steep headwall to the ridge. This is between 55 and65 degrees. Your guides will fix a safety rope and you will ascend using a jumar.
