The peak season for the Kailash -Mansarovar Yatra continues into June and July ,offering more departure dates for those who prefer warmer weather and clearer trekking paths especially when we do the 4 days parikrama. This period is ideal for pilgrims who wish to experience the regions’ beauty under more stable conditions. For those who want to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of Tibet, the months of August and September offer another excellent opportunity . During these months, the landscape is lush and green and the views of Mount Kailash are stunning. While you may experience some rain and cooler temperature, the weather is generally more predictable.
The fixed departures dates have been planned carefully, considering the best weather, permit availability ,Pilgrims choice as the best occasion, like fullmoon at moment in Lake Manasarovar or to be near the mount kailash as well considering the favorable weather in Kailash,Tibet . To ensure your place on this unforgettable journey Mount Kailash Tour Departure Dates vary each itinerary, allowing you to choose the route and the time which best suits you. Whether you prefer a scenic overland via Kerung or via Lhasa as the Nepal – Tibet border is open to cross to kailash since 2015. There was another popular border called Kodari border in the south east of Kathmandu and it was the most popular border where most of the kailash yatris used to go to kailash ,but after the earthquake in 2015 in April in Nepal the road in both countryside was badly damaged and still can’t be rebuilt properly.
And another open for Yatiries via Hilsa – Taklakot in far west nepal , but this border is not easier accessible as the far from city and you have to take numbers flights by plane, Helicopter but unpredictable weather can cancel the flights and take extra days and dealy the your regular plan. And also this route is more costly as you have to buy more airplane flights and helicopter flights. Overall, this is not as popular as other borders. As per the Nepal – Tibet open border conditions here we are planning to organizing the Kailash Manasarovar yatra for 2025 and 2026 via the Keyirung and via the Lhasa by flight.

A day like on the Kailash Yatra : From Dirapuk to Zuthulpuk over Dolma-LA Pass.
The day starts early at Dirapuk, a peaceful camp surrounded by tall mountains. The morning air is cold and fresh, and there’s a quiet excitement among everyone as this is one of the most challenging and special parts of the journey. After a warm breakfast, you put on your gear and start the trek, feeling both nervous and excited.
The trail then winds through the rocky valley with the sight of Mount Kailash standing tall and majestic. It almost feels like the mountain is watching over you. The climbs become steeper and the air gets thinner as you move higher, but the breathtaking views and the feeling of being close to something sacred will keep you feeling like continuing.
The hardest part of the day is reaching Dolma-La Pass, the highest point of the trek at 5,360m. It’s a tough climb and every step feels heavy , but when you finally reach the top the view is incredible. The pass is covered in the colourful prayer flags and there is this feeling of peace and spirituality in the air. Many people pause here to rest, offer prayers and take in the moment.
From the pass, the trail leads down to Lake Gauri Kund, a small, beautiful lake that shines like a jewel in the rocky landscape. The water is clear and still, and it’s said to be a holy place where Goddess Parvati once bathed. Standing there, you can feel the deep calm.
The rest of the trek is easier, passing through green meadows and flowing streams. By the time you reach Zuthulpuk, the day’s destination, you’re tired but happy. Zuthulphuk is known for its “ Miracle Cave” linked to the stories of the Tibetan saint Milarepa. The guesthouse here is simple but cozy and you can finally rest and reflect on the incredible day you’ve had. This day on the kailash Yatra is a mix of physical challenge and spiritual reward. The stunning view , the sacred places and the sense of achievement make it a day you’ll never forget.

How much it costs for hiring a helper (Porter) and horse for kailash Parikrama
Hire a horse and helper (porter) for kailash parikrama based on per day charge and it is organized by the local Tibetans who have lived around for many years already. We can’t hire an individual horse or helper (porter) . We should go through the organization and this will be managed by our Tibet side guide as they will have easy communication through local dialogue.
Yamadawar ( Tarbuche) is the place where we get horses and helpers after a 5 km drive from Darchen on the 1st day of your parikrama. You have to let us know in advance to book the horse or porter. In the high pickup season they are very busy and sometimes you can’t get a horse or helper if you don’t book an advance.
If you are doing 4 days parikrama including the CharanSparsa , and north face touch you have to hire for 4 days and if you are only doing the out Kora without doing inner north face then you can only hire for 3 days. Doing a north face – Charan Spursha is not easy as out kora because inner hikes are more challenging and adventures as the terrain and landscape is more steep ascends and before reaching near
Mt. Holy Kailash you have to walk on top of the ice, glacier and slippery and rock fall down from Mt kailash. The reason being that more adventure challenging hikes demand more preparation mentally and physically for those people who want to do this part of the hike. Advantage of doing the inner north face hikes gives the opportunity to touch the Kailash with surrounding views and reach CharanSpursha and pray puja in distance.
Some people hire a horse and helper during Mt. Kailash Parikrama and some doesn’t. It is not compulsory to hire a horse or porter if you are fit and fine physically and mentally for this hike by yourself, but as it is a higher section of the yatra and due to the higher elevation it can always be a challenging walk for you or especially for the older travelers. Hire a horse and helper will be the alternative option for you at that time if you couldn’t walk or feel weak. You can’t get horse or porter from day 2nd or day 3rd as the yatra paths is goes more in remote region where there is not available any those facilites. If anyone needs it , you have to let your leader at least a few days earlier from your starting day of kailash parikrama.
Sometimes you can hire a horse from Dirapuk to top of the Dolma La pass only on the 3rd day but it is not guaranteed as the remote and horse are not enough available and also expensive.
If you are prepared at least from last 4-5 months prior from your yatra begins date with basic exercise like every day walk 5 -10km , Join a Yoga class, short run, go for a day hikes and do the cardio vascular training etc can build your strong stamina which will help you for completing the yatra and you may also no need horse or helper.
Here is the rough cost idea for hire a horse and helper during the parikrama
Service | Cost (Chinese Yuan) |
---|---|
Hire a Horse and Horseman (per day) | 800 |
Helper (Porter) (per day) | 380 – 400 |
Horse from Dirapuk to top of Dolma La Pass | 1100 – 1150 |
Above mentioned cost is from 2023/2024, but in 2025 and 2026 cost can be changed more or less.
